Understand Dynamics GP Lifecycle Policies

Posted By Samuel Mathew

Microsoft Dynamics GP has long been a reliable ERP solution for businesses, but as part of Microsoft’s strategic cloud transition, support is officially phasing out. Understanding the GP lifecycle policies is critical for businesses to plan ahead and avoid operational disruptions.

Understanding Dynamics GP’s Lifecycle Policies

Microsoft offers two distinct lifecycle policies:

✔ Modern Lifecycle Policy (GP Version 18.x)

  • End of Support: December 31, 2029
  • Security Updates Until: April 30, 2031
  • Update Frequency: Three major updates per year (June, October, December)
  • Includes: Bug fixes, tax updates, usability enhancements

✔ Fixed Lifecycle Policy (Older GP Versions)

  • GP 2013: Support ended in 2023
  • GP 2015 & GP 2015 R2: Support ends on April 8, 2025
  • GP 2016 & GP 2016 R2: Support ends on July 14, 2026
  • GP 2018 & GP 2018 R2: Support ends on January 11, 2028

Older versions will not receive updates beyond their expiration, making it increasingly risky to maintain them.
